Walt Gunning served 29 years in the U.S. Army in command and staff positions from Lieutenant to Colonel. He has served in the 1st Infantry division, 3rd Infantry Division, 6th Infantry Division, I Corps and Human Resources Command. Colonel Gunning was commissioned in 1970 as a Second Lieutenant of Armor. In 1974 he branch transferred to the Adjutant General’s Corps. His professional education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, Adjutant General Officer Advanced Course, Defense Information School, Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University.
He is a graduate of Norwich University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
Following active duty Walt was the EDS Corporation Personnel Enterprise Systems- Army (PES-A) Client Delivery Executive having P&L responsibility for over $120 million in Army contracts. He was responsible for IT operations and software development. Upon retirement from EDS he joined Booz Allen Hamilton and served as the functional lead assisting the Army in the largest HR ERP implementation in the United States. Presently, he is the owner of Gunning Group LLC assisting firms with business development activities and client strategy.
Walt serves on the board of directors of the Norwich University Alumni Association and is the current president of the association. He is a member of the National Ski Patrol and the Adjutant General Corps Regimental Association. He and his wife Kathy currently reside in Fairfax, VA.
