Sergeant Sarah Norton"I am very honored to have been selected as one of the winners for the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship. This sort of recognition instills great pride in my country and in myself. I feel as though I have found a new support system that encourages my efforts toward a higher education as much as my family, friends, and comrades have. I am reassured that while I continue to serve my country I am also privileged to receive a valuable education. Balancing my commitment to the Guard, my studies, and my work schedule can, at times, be challenging, to say the least. It is no secret that funding an education can draw from a number of resources. And now, with the help of this scholarship, another resource has become available. I will do my best to be worthy of the benefit." |

Specialist Anne Stewart"I am pleased to have the honor of receiving the US Army Women Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship award means that I will have the opportunity to continue moving forward in my pursuit of completing my undergraduate degree as soon as possible, despite my current financial position. With the support of the US Army Women’s Foundation, I am thankful for the help and understanding of the difficulty in obtaining an education while serving my country full-time. It is amazing that I am able to receive such an award, considering it was not too long ago that women could not serve in the military and it was rare to see a woman with a college education. To be able to grow up in a first generation household and have the US Army Women’s Foundation sponsor my educational goals, I will be able to make my family proud. This scholarship award will also be able to allow me to better serve my country as I move forward in my career in hopes of becoming a Commissioned Officer. Even with hard work and dedication, I am unable to accomplish my goals and ambitions by myself. It was with the assistance and support of the US Army Women’s Foundation that provided me with the right tools to overcome my obstacles and maximize my potential in my work, school, and life." |

Tamra Aguilera"Words cannot express what this scholarship means to me. For many years, I walked around thinking that joining the Army was one of the biggest mistakes of my life due to the treatment I had received as a veteran. There were a lot of obstacles in the way for us women who served in the first war we were able to serve in. At every turn all the answers I received stood firm in the fact that they VA were only set up to serve our men veterans. The hospitals and services were not equipped to handle nor seemed concerned to address the issues and concerns of the female veteran. Winning this award for me is like a voice that says we finally hear you and honor the sacrifices that we as women made to serve our country in its time of need. This scholarship will be used to benefit thousands of other women who have had the same experiences of being rejected and feeling hopeless. As I pursue my Master’s Degree in Social Work, this scholarship will make my goals of establishing a long-term 12 month residential facility for women and children who suffer from substance abuse issues a reality. I believe that women who return from war should have a place of hope to help address the issues they face and I want to be an instrument used to help them." |

Sharoyal Roach"I am honored to be a recipient of the Army Women’s Legacy Scholarship award. This scholarship means a great deal to me, which has already enhanced my life by suppressing my education’s financial obligations. This scholarship gave the opportunity to finish my bachelor’s degree in Human Service Management, just when I had exhausted all other financial possibilities. For me, receiving this scholarship is not just about the money, but it’s about receiving support and appreciation from those who are willing to assist women veterans like myself. You cannot put a price on that, so to be a recipient is a true blessing that I do not take for granted. In our society today, having an education is of the utmost importance, and I am beyond pleased to be able to continue with mine – thanks to the Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship." |
